An essential service in any town, what was your inspiration to start this business up?

For as long as I can remember my passion has been helping others, to realise a dream or overcome an obstacle. My friends and family always tell me I’m very resourceful and usually their first contact to help out or solve a problem.

By early 2017 I was receiving many requests from friends and family and I thought to myself, “you are very passionate about helping others, Nakeita, so why not monetize this and turn it into a viable service…” and that, as they say, was that!

So, say I’m lounging around on Turtle Beach and I have a sudden craving for a couple of beef patties and a grape soda… it really would not be a problem for Flash Errands to bring them to me?

Absolutely no problem! We are definitely here all ready and waiting to satisfy any spontaneous food cravings you have… assuming what you want is readily available... :-)

What is the most unusual job you have been asked to do, or strangest item to be delivered?

Well… I remember back in February 2018, not long after our business had begun, a guest staying at a popular ‘all inclusive’ hotel on the north coast asked me to source and deliver some marijuana to where he was staying.

What an interesting errand I thought, lol. Long and short, he was duly informed about the legal marijuana dispensary in Mammee Bay, and would he like to go and procure his own recreational substances.

In what ways would you like your business to grow?

I would love to see my business growing beyond borders — to serve customers from almost anywhere in the world who have either a business, home or family ties in Jamaica, and need a reliable service to provide coverage or assistance.

I am also working on a multi-faceted approach in which D&N Flash Errand Services will become a ‘one-stop shop’ for all my customers’ needs in an effort to allow them more valuable time with their family or for whatever they wish.

My innate passion is to help others, no matter how small. My primary driving force is to help as many persons as reasonably possible, and D&N Flash Errand Services is the ideal platform upon which to effect this.

I live by the Rotary motto ‘Service above Self’ which I try to put into practice as often as I am able.

Currently, most of my outreach programs are geared towards children because they are the future (cue for a song, lol) and we need to help them to develop to their full potential in realising dreams and aspirations.

Looking through Ochi-tinted specs, what changes would most benefit the town?

Ocho Rios is our home and needs to be treated as such. I find it very disappointing to see the daily levels of garbage on the streets, even though garbage receptacles are provided throughout the town. As citizens we need to ensure we do our duty to keep things tidy and look after the place.

Also, large sections of the market are unpaved, therefore when it rains it becomes muddy and messy and extremely difficult to traverse. We want to support our local farmers but the relevant authorities need to ensure the space in which they operate is made and kept safe for both vendors and buyers alike.

Do carrots scream when you chop them?

To ensure the most accurate and up-to-the-minute answer, I went straight to my kitchen and chopped a carrot and — lo and behold — it screamed so loud it might have woken my neighbours lol!
